The scholarship will help the student pursue his or her higher education dream by paying for the college tuition, textbooks, and some essential school supplies.
Our goal for this year was to provide a needs-based scholarship to one student in each grade of 1 to 9. The amount would be set-up with the school to cover the tuition fees, required textbooks, and essential supplies (paper, pencils, etc).
In the 2022-2023 school year, we distributed 14 monetary scholarships ($50 per scholarships) to 14 needs-based educational students in 2 elemtary schools and 1 middle school; 250 school supply kits including essential school supplies to 250 first graders in one of those elemntary shools.
The scholarchips helped the students continue their schooling dream by paying for the following school year tuition, books, and some essential school supplies. The school supply kits including pens, pencils, erasers, scissors, etc, helped the little students start off the school year.
My family belongs to a poor household. The whole family does not have land for farming or raising livestock, but only lives on the meager salary that my father works as a hired laborer to make ends meet. Because there was no land for cultivation, the family had to rent or sublease a 2-hectare piece of land from someone else to earn extra income and have more expenses to send her and her younger brother to school, but the rent was quite high so it was too expensive. not enough to pay for tuition for the two brothers.
My family lives in an old house. Because there has been no money to repair it for too long, the house is dilapidated and has many holes in the roof, so when it rains, all the furniture leaks. In the summer, the sunlight is very uncomfortable. My father and mother are also not in good health. My father has sinusitis. Every time the weather gets cold, the pain of the disease returns, causing him pain so he has to take medicine every day, so the economy becomes more and more difficult.
Although my family's situation is difficult and needy, I do not have the feeling of inferiority, giving up, or being discouraged with the dream I have been pursuing for so long, which is to be a materials engineer. During my 12 years in school, I was a student who achieved the title of Good and Excellent, and in the graduation exam I got a score of 22.3. Some points are quite satisfactory for the major I have chosen. I always try and strive to rise every day to have a brighter, happier future, to help my family escape poverty, escape suffering and to devote myself to my homeland, an increasingly civilized country, stronger.
If you are lucky enough to receive this scholarship, it will be a great honor for your family. This scholarship will help reduce some of the financial burden on my family, help my parents do less hard work, and create a great motivation to continue on the path I have chosen with high expectations that my father, mother and everyone gave me.
I don't know what else to say, I ask that the scholarship fund will consider and help me overcome my current difficulties so that I can walk on the path of my dream. The scholarship fund is really necessary for a student in a situation like mine at this time.
My family is in difficult circumstances. My parents divorced when I was in first grade, and since then I have been living with my grandparents. My parents have not provided any financial support since the divorce, and my grandparents have been taking care of my education from first grade to twelfth grade. My family consists of four people: my grandparents, myself, and my younger sister. My sister is currently in ninth grade, and our parents separated when she was one year old. My grandparents have been taking care of her since then. My grandfather works as a motorbike taxi driver and sets up fishing nets to make ends meet. My grandmother does odd jobs, such as cutting grass, fishing, and selling fish. My grandparents are now elderly, and my grandfather suffers from gout, making it difficult for him to move around, and he also has liver inflammation. My grandmother frequently falls ill due to her weak physical condition and suffers from gastric inflammation.
Because my grandparents are not capable of supporting me to go to university due to their age and health issues, I don't want to be a burden and tire them. Thanks to my teacher's introduction, I known about Jordan Mai's scholarship. If I receive it, my grandparents will be able to reduce the financial burden of my education and my sister's education. They will be very happy because I can continue my journey to university and pursue my dreams. As for myself, if I receive this scholarship, I will feel extremely happy and grateful, but I will also strive to learn and acquire more knowledge so that I don't have to rely on the generosity of the sponsor.
If someone asks me this question, I will confidently answer that not only me, but also those who have the intention to go to university deserve to receive this scholarship because the path to university is full of challenges and obstacles, and it is also the shortest path to secure a stable job.
I can never forget the phrase that always makes me want to study even more: I have an apple and you have an apple, if we exchange them, we both still have one apple. But if I have knowledge and you have too, when we exchange with each other, we both have both knowledge. I believe that the power of knowledge has overcome the difficulties and hardships that life is trying to put in the way of my education, but I will not back down. Knowledge has always pushed me forward, towards a brighter future, so that my grandparents don't have to suffer more, so that my younger sibling can go to school without having to take a break to help the family, so that I can repay my grandparents for their hard work in raising me until now.
Like other students in VietNam, this period is the time for university admission. I chose to study Software Engineering at Can Tho University (CTU), but my family's difficult circumstances make it difficult for me to pursue my dream, and this is the reason why I wrote this letter.
My family belongs to a poor household, my father passed away early when I was 6 years old, and I am currently living with my mother. Having no land for cultivation, we live in a rundown house, which often leaks during the rainy season. My mother's job is unstable. Before, she borrowed the empty yard in front of my uncle’s house to sell fruit and vegetables, but now because of the low price, she no longer sells. Currently, my mother works for a shoe company but the job is still insecure. The job is hard, my mother goes to work early in the morning, comes home late, and has to work the night shift so she rarely gets enough sleep. Sitting for many hours, my mother has to suffer from the pain caused by slipped disc and hemorrhoids. Finding my mother tired, after school I often help her with housework. During my free time when I don't have classes, I often work part-time to earn a little extra money. With such an unstable income like that, I am about to enter university, so my family is under more pressure.
Facing the difficulties ahead, I remind myself not to falter and have to strive harder, be better to have a brighter future, escape poverty and be a spiritual support for my mother. In terms of study, I was an excellent student for 12 years from grade 1 to grade 12 and my average score some years reach 9.0. In grade 11, I participated in the “English excellent student competition” and won third prize at the provincial level. During the three years of high school, besides focusing on the main subjects at school, I often participated in other activities such as the school's English Club, the IOE contest - Internet Olympiads of English to practice and improve myself. It will be a great honor if I have an opportunity to receive this scholarship. This is a great source of motivation to help me strive and be more confident on the university path, the path to lighting up my dream.
I hereby certify that the information provided above is true and comes from the bottom of my heart. I sincerely hope that the scholarship fund considers and supports my family to overcome the current difficult situation. Many thanks for giving me your time and empathy.
My family belongs to a poor household. The whole family's living expenses depend on the money that my father earns from selling lottery tickets every day. My family lives in a house with a corrugated iron roof, the corrugated iron walls are rusted and have many holes, the wooden pillars are somewhat broken down, my father has to use bamboo to reinforce it. The leaky house is damp and cold in the rainy season, hot in the summer. My mother has suffered from mental illness since I was young. At that time, I was so innocent that I didn't know she was mentally ill. When I was in 3rd grade, I knew that my mother was sick when people told me: "Your mother was crazy, don’t you know that?" “, I ran to ask my dad, but he just asked who told me. After that, I realized that the time when my mother scolded my father, broke dishes, and occasionally ran away to my grandmother's house so much that my father had to find her that was my mother who was sick, not my mother and father arguing. My Dad loves my Mom very much, the others look at her and say why didn't Dad take Mom to a mental hospital, but Dad wouldn't accept it. He said that living there is so miserable, whether she is taken good care of or be starved? Only when she gets sick does she do that. However, normally she still cooks and washes clothes for my father and my sisters. It's been 10 years since I was in 3rd grade. My mother's illness has gotten worse and she's cursed more often, but she still cooks for me. My mother receives a monthly social allowance of 540,000 VND to take care of her medical expenses. As for my father, he has had sciatica and suffered from pain for many years. There were a few times he had to be hospitalized because the pain was too much to bear. But when the weather got cold, my father was in mild pain and he still refused to tell anyone. When I saw my father secretly taking medicine, I realized that he was in pain.
I love my father very much, he is always patient, takes care of the family, always wants to shoulder the heavy work alone. He is afraid that we will be miserable.
I've had nearsightedness since I was little but I didn't know that. Since I was in the first grade, I couldn't see the words on the board clearly when I sat at the last table. When I was in 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade, I sat near the blackboard and saw that the letters were blurry but still clearer than when I sat at the last table. At that time, I thought everyone was like me, so I didn't question this to anyone. When I was in 5th grade, I sat at the first desk to study. The teacher told me to read the lesson on the board for my friends to hear, but I couldn't see clearly and had to squint my eyes deeply to be able to reluctantly read the words on the board. The teacher asked me a few things, then she quickly told my father that I was nearsighted, so why didn't I wear glasses? At that time, my dad was also very surprised, he took me to have my eyes measured, it was already more than four degrees, he bought glasses for me but he was very sad. He was sad because I had to carry those blurry eyes around for many years but he didn't know, he always blame for himself. Right now my eyes are more than 9 degrees both nearsighted and astigmatic. My dad wants to take me to eye surgery when I'm old enough, but I'm very scared. But the main reason is that the cost is so expensive. So, I wonder that wearing glasses isn't much of an inconvenience so I never want eye surgery. Outside of school, I went out to sell lottery tickets with my dad, walking around the streets all afternoon but could only earn a meager 50,000 VND. I see that my father had to try very hard to take care of his family's life. Looking at my father's hardships, I am even more determined to strive and conquer success.
I remember when I was in 10th grade, during a stormy season, it rained heavily for many days. My family couldn't make money so we had to cook rice from moldy rice to eat for more than a week straight. I will always remember the musty, sour taste of that bowl of rice that day. I will make a lot of money in the future to take care of my family; I will buy lots of delicious food for my dad, so he won't have to go hungry anymore; I will buy many beautiful clothes for my father, so that he will not wear the same old, torn shirt over and over again. I will take care of my father and mother a lot.
I have 2 younger siblings. My younger sister is preparing to enter the 10th grade, and my younger brother is preparing to enter the 6th grade. The older I and my siblings get, the heavier the burden becomes on my father's shoulders, as he cannot afford to take care of the whole family. More expenses are spent on studying, so Dad's burden is even greater. Even so, my father still tried to take care of us as fully as possible, so that we could firmly walk on the path to school, to have a bright, successful and good future. I will definitely fulfill my father's wishes and be a resounding success to repay him and to thank him for everything he has done for us.
With a difficult family and unstable expenses, my father still supports my mother and our sisters until today. The older I and my siblings get, the heavier the burden becomes on my father's shoulders, as he cannot afford to take care of the whole family. That's why I applied for a scholarship with the hope of easing some of the burden on my father's shoulders, wishing to see his bright, happy smile. So that I can enter university to continue studying and training, to realize my dreams in the future, and help my family and society.
I cannot choose where I was born, but I will choose how I live. A difficult family situation does not make me feel self-conscious, discouraged, or give up, but it is a great source of motivation for me to strive for success. I wish to have a brighter, happier future to help my family escape poverty, escape misery and to devote myself to my homeland, making the country stronger and stronger day by day.
If I am lucky enough to receive a scholarship, it will truly be a great honor for my family. This scholarship will help reduce some of the financial burden and helps me confidently continue on my learning path and it is also a great source of motivation for me to strive to excel, regardless of my father's expectations and the trust of the benefactors who awarded me the scholarship. For me, this scholarship not only provides me financial and material support but also spiritual support which light up the fire of human love, the spirit of solidarity, and profound human values.
The future is built, built from the present. So I will always try and make endless efforts.
All I wrote in the letter come from the bottom of my heart who wants to share some of his father's burden so that every day my Dad can rest a little early, worry less about family finances, so that Dad's eyes no longer have sadness, so that Dad's smile is happier. I hope you,my sponsors, will consider supporting my family to overcome the current difficult situation.
Our goal for this year is to provide an essential school supply kit to each child in the first grade.
